The ReturnThe Return

Hey everyone, and welcome back to Miss Dream! It's been exactly two weeks since my last real update, and I'm glad to be back at work around these parts. But of course, I did have a bit of fun while I was gone...specifically, with Mario Knight of Sailormoon Uncensored and Holly of Moon Collection!

We spent a night baking Sailormoon pastries (for those interested, here's a link to the Facebook gallery, it's public: The Internet gets together to make cookies and cupcakes in ridiculous shapes), and then spent a day together hiking at the Helderberg Escarpment (minus Holly, who unfortunately had a sprained ankle -- get better soon!!). Pictures of that are also on Facebook here: Hiking with the Dream Team.

Lots of fun was had, and we plan to meet up again together soon. It was really an honor to meet both Holly and Mario Knight, who were amazingly sweet and funny. I can't believe that we all live close enough together to meet up now on a semi-regular basis -- and when we do, we'll post some pictures here for those of you curious about our IRL shenanigans.

Of course, while we've been away some people have taken the opportunity to bash our site, thinking that we wouldn't be aware of it or that we wouldn't respond to it. Since certain people have called into question our translation abilities, we've decided to put the issue to rest once and for all; anyone curious about our Japanese proficiency can check out our new page dedicated to displaying the translation staff's credentials, which you can now find on our staff page. Rather than bickering with people who hide behind anonymous handles who claim to have "native speakers" on their translation staff, we've put the issue to rest by letting everyone see for themselves that we hold degrees in Japanese from SUNY Albany and the Tokyo University of Foreign Studies, as well as hold level 2 JLPT certifications. So don't listen to people who say otherwise about us; check out our credentials for yourself and make your own judgment.

Lastly, check out our latest release: Chibiusa's Picture Diary #4. This release contains an extra "page" with our translator's notes, which is well worth checking out even for those of you who have read the Mixx or Tokyopop translations of this particular short story before, since the official English language companies never bothered to explain the cultural implications of the Naruru and Ruruna and the two gangsters harassing the pawn shop owner. Working with Icera of Neo Nobility has been a truly rewarding experience, and we plan to finish the rest of the short stories together, including the 3 Exam Battles, Casablanca Memories, and the Lover of Princess Kaguya. So look out for those over the next couple of weeks!

That's all for today folks. Translation requests are once again open in the forums, so we hope to see you there. Have a good day!

EDIT: Happy birthday to staff member Pat, AKA Cha0sKnight81 on the forums!!

Returns & Credentials

I'm glad you had a nice break, Elly, you deserved it after your hard work.

It's too bad that so many people were bashing the site that you felt the need to make a whole page to show your translation credentials. Viewing that page made me wonder whether I ought to provide my credentials as a French translator for MD, except that as I have not yet graduated college I do not have a diploma yet to prove my knowledge. Plus, as far as I know no one's been bashing my translations. I suppose my turn will come though. I wonder if it would be worth it for me to take a proficiency test. I'm sure they have one like the JLPT for French.

Just read the Chibiusa diary. Naruru and Ruruna are hilarious! I'd heard about them but had not yet read the comic they were in till now. Isn't the pawn shop owner based on some guy who won a chance to be in the manga? I believe so. I loved Naoko-san's note too - it's always great to hear her talk about how much she appreciates the fans.

Anyway, okaeri nasai Elly-san!

Haha yeah, the shop owner was

Haha yeah, the shop owner was a character that was won by Makoto Hanmatsuura at a charity auction. Essentially, the person at the charity to donate the most money got to be in Sailormoon as a character for a one-shot event. I think this was confirmed in one of the artbooks -- possibly the Infinity.

Also boo to the haters. Posting up our credentials was probably a good move even without the drama, because now people can trust us without a doubt. Since we are who we say we are, we've got nothing to worry about. Now it's up to the others to prove that they aren't full of BS, haha. <3

The shop owner

Yes, it was confirmed in the Infinity Artbook. I just checked. Here is the page (from Manga Style): http://mangastyle.net/infinity/infinity38.jpg

According to the liner notes at Manga Style, the guy bid 2 million yen!! Wow. The proceeds of the auction went to help those who survived the Kobe Earthquake (probably the one of 1995). Coincidentially, in the manga the shop owner mentions the Great Kanto Earthquake of 1923, and according to Wikipedia the Kobe Earthquake was the worst Japan had had since that one at that time. Kitagawa Keiko (Mars in PGSM) is also from Kobe and actually lost many friends in the Kobe quake.

I think it's great that Naoko-san was willing to contribute to charity, both through this story (as noted in the notes) and through allowing someone to win a spot in the manga via a charity auction.

haters are gonna hate. they

haters are gonna hate. they need to change their flavor of haterade. *nodnod* i swear the sailor moon fandom has more drama than any other i've come across. lol. so i say no mas! you can't change peoples mind when they're stubborn and what not. oh well, you still have my love. hehe

What a truthy statement.

What a truthy statement. Ruthy baby, we love you and we're so glad to have you on our team. You've stuck with us through thick and thin, you are amazing. <3

Yay! =D So glad to see you

Yay! =D So glad to see you guys are officially back! <33 The internet was sure boring without Miss Dream updates happening. x_x;

As for the bashers, haters are going to hate. =/ Other than what you said there proving your credentials, I'd say just ignore them in the future. The more you respond to idiots, the more of them show up and the louder they get. If they're just completely ignored, their flame will make them look stupid.
'cause yeah. If I hear one more person say "MISS DRAMA" I'm going to seriously flip. XD

Thanks for the short story, and looking forward to the rest! =D Thanks much!

Haha, I know what you mean.

Haha, I know what you mean. We've dealt with a lot of wank since we opened, and so aside from posting up our credentials due to massive stupidity attacks, yeah, we're pretty much not responding to the haters at all from this point on. Jealousy sure is a bitch.

Anyway, thanks for continuing to visit! I really missed working on this place. I'm glad I got in my break though, burn out is no fun. I'll have more updates soon!
